Crowdsourcing Cheese and Dairy Products

April 7, 2015 By IdeaConnection

cowsAre you a connoisseur of cheese? A fan of fromage? Do you delight in dairy and shout louder for Gouda?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be interested in the Oregon-based farmers who are now taking a crowdsourcing approach to business.  They are inviting customers to get involved with product development and more.

For more than a century, the farmers of Tillamook County have been producing quality cheeses and other dairy products.  The first cheeses were rolled out in the dwindling years of the 19th century and in 1909 a number of small creameries formed a farmer-owned cooperative. So collaboration has long been a part of the history.  But change is afoot, not in the quality but in how things are going to be done.

Bringing Farmers and Consumers Closer Together

The Tillamook Co-Op has created an online community where farmers and customers collaborate to shape new products and the business.  Members of the public will be able to vote on new products, package design and key business decisions as well as put forward their own product ideas.

Crowdsourcing partners will also be able to attend annual member meetings and enjoy a range of perks, such as VIP nights out.

Tillamook is capitalizing on a popular consumer trend, one where customers are no longer content to be passive buyers.  They want to have an integral role with the brands they love.

According to Tillamook Co-Op, the crowdsourcing platform is a first in their industry.
