Crowdsourcing Gift Ideas to Avoid Unwanted Presents

April 6, 2012 By IdeaConnection

Here’s an idea that could improve your chances of giving better presents or at least presents more suited to a recipient’s tastes, rather than useless gifts that just end up at the back of the wardrobe.

No Sweaters in the US is a service that allows gift givers to ask the crowd for present recommendations based on the personal interests of the recipient.

Users start by explaining to the community the type of person they are trying to find a present for by providing such information as their gender, age and interests.

Members of the community suggest suitable presents and receive points for each suggestion. The more points they receive the higher they climb up the ‘top gifters’ leader board.

All of the suggestions are kept in the No Sweaters database which means that users don’t have to ask the community if they don’t want to. They just search for a gift based on the recommendations of similar recipients; categories include guy friends, moms, cousins, roommates, baby sitters, dog sitters, teachers and co-workers.

Of course you could just ask the recipient what kind of gift they would like, but when that’s not possible this crowdsourcing initiative could help you avoid the dilemma of wondering what the heck to buy a friend, partner, colleague or family member.
