An innovative energy-harvesting wallpaper made of cyanobacteria functions as both a solar panel and a battery.
Developed by a team from the Imperial College London, the wallpaper is made up of a layer of carbon nanotubes overlaid with living cyanobacteria. As the bacteria carry out their natural photosynthesis, the generated electrical energy is harvested and stored for later use.
The bacteria- and sun-powered wallpaper was printed using a conventional inkjet printer, and could eventually have applications from medical sensors to affordable power supplies.
