First Integrated System to Generate Both Electricity and Heat

Jun-20-14 The world's first integrated solar system able to generate both electricity and heat has been installed in a house in Sydney, Australia.

The system was created by Bluescope, an Australian steel manufacturer, which some help from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The roof-mounted array is made up of thin-film solar PVs and a solar duct system that have been integrated into steel roofing tiles. The top layer functions like a conventional solar panel, harvesting solar energy for electricity, while the dual layers trap heat between them to be distributed for heating water and the interior of the home.
