Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight for the Technically Disinclined

Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight for the Technically Disinclined
Oct-22-14
The Leeo Smart Alert Nightlight uses a neat low-tech trick to alert absent homeowners to a fire in the home.

The Leeo was created for people who appreciate the advances of an internet-connected home, but who don’t like dealing with complicated technology. Instead smoke or heat monitoring sensors, the device simply listens for the tell-tale beep of the regular home smoke alarm, which is required to have a certain, distinct sound. When the alarm goes off, the Leeo will send an alert through a smartphone app and give the homeowner the choice of calling the fire department.

Part of the inspiration for the project was a focus group in which only one person in a hundred had heard of the "internet of things." With this in mind, the development team chose to focus on the average person instead of the relatively few early adopters targeted by other smart home solutions.
