MyCite First FDA-Approved Smart Pill

MyCite First FDA-Approved Smart Pill
Nov-15-17
The Abilify MyCite is the first FDA-approved smart pill able to monitor patient medication compliance.

Proteus Digital Health teamed with the producers of the schizophrenia drug Abilify, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, to create the smart pill. The pill is equipped with both the medication and a biosafe sensor, which will activate when it contacts stomach fluid and transmit information to a patch worn by the patient. That data is then sent to a paired device for review by doctors or caregivers.

A 2012 study showed that lack of patient compliance costs the healthcare system as much as $317 billion dollars and causes up to 125,000 deaths annually.
