A team of researchers from the University of Arkansas have conceived a nano-drug that attacks breast cancer cells directly. Additionally, this drug only targets the cancerous cells, unlike chemotherapy, one of the most common method to treat cancer, that attacks every cell.
This drug has the advantage of being safer than chemotherapy, and proved it's success by destroying triple-negative breast cancer cells, belonging to an aggressive family of breast cancers.
This drug is made up of a new range of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and ligands from an older photodynamic therapy. The combination of these elements generates a nano-porous material that only targets cancerous cells.
