Skin-Inspired Hydrogel Won't Dry Out

Skin-Inspired Hydrogel Won't Dry Out
Jun-30-16
MIT researchers have developed a hydrogel inspired by human skin that could have applications ranging from drug delivery to wearable technology.

The hydrogel is an improvement on current versions in that it is able to retain moisture, preventing it from dehydrating. This was accomplished by coating the hydrogel with a thin elastomer, which trapped the water inside and enabled the gel to remain moist and flexible. The team believes the hybrid-elastomer material could be used to create a bandage that delivers medication through the skin, as well as open the door to contact lenses embedded with circuits.
