Student-Designed Wall-Walking Concept Trousers

Student-Designed Wall-Walking Concept Trousers
Jul-19-14
Inspired by a popular Wallace & Gromit movie, students have proven that is theoretically possible to build a pair of trousers that could allow the wearer to walk on the ceiling.

The trousers, created by a team from the University of Leicester, feature a pair of boots equipped with a vacuum generator. The boots' soles would be built with a slightly raised area, which would create a cavity and allow the boot to adhere to a flat surface much like a suction cup. The students determined that the vacuum pressure would only need to equal to that of a standard vacuum, and that powering the vacuum is actually the biggest hurdle. According to the team, the boots' vacuum could last on battery power for about 20 minutes, although it could also be hooked to the grid for a longer duration.
