Metal-composite interface for tubular structures

The technology has its main application as a solution for end-termination of tubular structures of composite materials. Carbon-composite risers for oil and gas production are one important arena where the technology can be used.

This interface offers a stronger, more secure and less costly solution than current alternatives.

DESCRIPTION NTNU researchers have developed a new design for an interface between a composite tube structure and metal terminations such as flanges or other tube and pipe-end structures.

The invention transfers axial forces from metal to composite fibres in a much more effective way than current solutions by exploiting the strong axis of the fibres.

UNIQUE SELLING POINTS
• Lower cost
• Higher strength
• More effective production

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS
• Oil and gas risers
• Wind-mill wings
