New technologies to develop opportunities for partially processed snack products are sought. Advantage pellets are partially processed food products that expand volumetrically when exposed to heat (e.g. microwaves), similar to the expansion of popcorn kernels. These products can provide increased shelf stability and the convenience of finishing the processing anywhere – by food processors, at restaurants, and by consumers at home. PepsiCo is interested in technologies to improve the current pellet production process or the final products.

• Change the final three-dimensional shape or increase the size of the expanded product
• Increase the observable difference between a partially and fully expanded pellet to minimize consumption of an incompletely expanded product
• Add shelf-stable inclusions into the pellets for variations in flavor or texture

Technologies of interest must be supported by technical data providing proof of concept.
