In 2013, a preliminary design for the futuristic Hyperloop high speed train concept was made public.  If it gets off the ground, it will shave hours off journey times, ease congestion and cut pollution levels.  Now, a group of engineers from Boeing, NASA and SpaceX want to make it a reality and they say they can do it within 10 years.  They were brought together by crowd collaboration platform JumpStartFund.

The Hyperloop transport system was envisioned by entrepreneur and business magnate Elon Musk and features a network of above-ground tubes that can send passengers from LA to San Francisco in 30 minutes at a speed of 800 miles per hour.  This is approximately twice the cruising speed of some passenger planes.

The Ebola outbreak may be fading from the headlines, but it is still a huge problem that is claiming thousands of lives.  To help speed up the development of a definitive cure for the devastating disease, the Scripps Research Institute is enlisting members of the crowd to use their computer downtime to carry out critical research.

Erica Ollmann Saphire, a Professor at Scripps, said: "We have the information in my lab that will tell us how to fight it . But we need computational power to calculate which drugs will best fit in the targets that we find."
