The goal is to find solutions to fourteen ideas spread across nine categories, including e-agriculture, national security, cybercrime, oil and gas, education and the environment.

Innovation Platform for Future Emergencies

Delta State is a state in Nigeria named for the delta of the River Niger and known for its agriculture industries and oil production.

This open innovation event is reaching out to Nigerian youths to help prepare them for what is called the next Nigeria Economic Meltdown (NEMD) with the intent of building the Nigeria Innovation Army (NIA). This techno-centric innovation framework will be able to respond quickly and effectively to future emergencies and national challenges in various sectors, such as health, the environment, education and disaster response.

Among the ideas requiring solutions are:

Mobile App for Education – Image Education and e-Campus

Mobile App on Future Ebola/Lassar Fever Mobility Tracking Solutions

Mobile App for Country e-Data on Poverty, Diseases, Security (SDGs)

Algorithm-based Solutions. Applications modeled by Algorithms to solve various problems

The Event

The 2016 open innovation hackathon takes place on Thursday, December 1, to Friday, December 3, and the closing date for online submissions is November 20.

Google (West Africa) has offered to provide support to the event and will be sending an expert group of developers.

Around 300 teams are expected to take part and these will be whittled down to 50 finalists who will pitch their ideas in a live event.
