Heineken Rolls Out Open Innovation Challenge

April 8, 2012 By IdeaConnection

Calling all innovators and problem solvers!  Dutch brewing group Heineken has launched an open innovation competition asking the public to come up with new ideas for sustainable beer packaging.

Ideas are requested for the 1) re-use or recycling of packaged materials 2) discovery of new packaging materials and 3) creation of sustainable ways to improve packaging in relation to transport. The winner of the best entry will be handed a check for $10,000.

The challenge has been framed with the following questions, though the concept does not have to capture all three categories:

How can we ensure that a larger amount of beer packaging will be re-used or re-cycled?

What kind of new material would significantly improve the LCA of beer packaging?

What are your ideas with relation to packaging in order to maximize transport efficiency?

Submissions will be assessed on innovativeness, feasibility, and online votes, and the top 100 innovators that get through this stage will be invited to work on their ideas with Heineken experts. The winner will be chosen from here by an expert panel of judges.

The deadline for submission is May 8th 2012 and the overall winner will be announced toward the end of June 2012.

The competition is hosted at www.ideasbrewery.com where you can sign up to take part.
