Global Innovation Centers

Several new innovation centers have either been open or announced, with the goal of stimulating innovation in diverse countries and in varied industries.

Technology in Canada

This month, Toronto based technology consultants, UNIS LUMIN, launched a national Innovation Office, dedicated to exploring and analyzing trends in business and technology, and developing roadmaps to open innovation opportunities for companies pursuing leadership positions in their industries. According to a company press release, the center is designed to a place where customers and UNIS LUMIN to validate and develop fresh business strategies with the potential to drive competitive advantage and differentiation. A cross-section of business partners have been invited to participate in an inaugural Innovation forum, to learn, debate and exchange strategic ideas.

Mobile in the U.S.

Verizon Wireless this week announced plans to open a Wireless Application Innovation Center (AIC), which is scheduled to open in San Francisco in the fall. The center will offer several collaboration labs, private development labs, and access to Verizon Wireless equipment.  Participants will be able to interact with Verizon Wireless experts in application development, software development, network APIs, network performance and business development.

Document Services in The Netherlands

Supplier of copiers and printers, Océ, has founded a document-services focused Open Innovation Center and the Business Services School. According the company, the most important objective of the Innovation Center is to form an ecosystem where all relevant parties can find each other and develop new document services. They aim to create a knowledge network on document technology and document services and to initiate and facilitate open innovation collaboration projects in the area of document services.

The Center also provides shared services and facilities and temporary or permanent project space where innovation projects to work together.
