High Performance Facebook Fans Crowdsource Porsche Sports Car

August 6, 2013 By IdeaConnection

porsche2Prestige car maker Porsche has a reputation for being tuned into its social media audience, giving followers plenty of insights and information about its cars and greatly valuing their input.

As part of the “50 Years of the Porsche 911” anniversary festivities, and to celebrate reaching five million “likes” on Facebook, it looked to fans to help customize a one-off 911 Carrera 4S sports car. That car has now been built.

Porsche provided online followers with a suite of design options to choose from. Those options that garnered the highest votes were added to the luxury vehicle. According to a piece in Auto Express, more 54,000 fans took part in the process.

Sleek and Sporty

“You have determined the configuration, and we’ve built the car,” Porsche wrote on its Facebook page. “This is our unique 911 Carrera 4S, which has been spiced up by our experts from Porsche Exclusive.”

The crowdsourced car has Aqua Blue metallic paintwork, white 20in wheels and is emblazoned with the words “5M Porsche Fans” and “personally built by 5 million Porsche fans.”

New Contest

But this isn’t the end of the crowdsourcing initiative. The car manufacturer is hosting another event on its Facebook page. It’s a contest in which the person with the most Porsche Facebook fans in their friends list will get to drive the crowdsourced car at the Porsche Experience Center in Silverstone, U.K.

Contest runners up will receive their very own Porsche car to take home. Although, it will only be a 1:43 scale model.
