Open Innovation Conference to Look at Job Creation Solutions

May 5, 2013 By IdeaConnection

Cuerpo_humano_jaqaruHere’s something that many countries are crying out for: jobs for its workforce. As the effects of the global financial crisis bite ever deeper unemployment figures are going in the wrong direction.

For example, Spain recently recorded its highest unemployment levels for more than a generation with 27% of the workforce unemployed.

So the Open Innovation 2.0 conference being held in Dublin toward the end of May is welcome news.  It will focus on how a new approach to innovation and research can create jobs.

The aim will be to bring together top decision makers, thought leaders, leading executives and social innovators to “develop a manifesto, platform and roadmap for sustainable economy and society development.”

The program includes sessions on social innovating, crowdfunding, co-creating, science and society, models of open innovation, and  ‘open innovation: what works and what does not’.

The conference will take place on 20 and 21 May at Dublin Castle and is fully supported by The European Commission.

High Eurozone Unemployment

Unemployment in the 17 countries using the euro hit 12.1% in March; that’s 19.2 million people without a job in the Eurozone.

Ireland is one of those Eurozone countries that must create more jobs. “Open innovation as a driving force within a digital economy and society can create thousands of jobs in Dublin,” said Dublin’s Lord Mayor Naoise Ó Muirí.

Novel Answers

Solutions are needed. Politicians and business leaders do not have all the answers, but collective intelligence, free of party political constraints may come up with some novel answers.
