Open Innovation Contest for Environmentally Friendly Shower

August 26, 2013 By IdeaConnection

800px-ShowerheadInspiration can strike anywhere – in the bath, on the bus, over the park and under the shower. Next time you’re in your favorite creative spot, especially if it’s beneath a powerful spray of water, see if you can come up with a new design for a more sustainable shower.

Unilever has launched a global open innovation contest for the next generation of showers that have a minimal impact on the planet and on our wallets.

“In-home use is responsible for a significant proportion of the carbon footprint of shower products and with water becoming ever more precious there is an identified need to develop the world’s first commercially viable shower of the future,” says Unilever.

Prize Money

In addition to helping the environment, the winner will receive a check for €5,000 (approx. USD $6,600). There are also cash awards for second to fifth place.

The contest is being hosted on co-creation community platform eYeka.com and after registering for the site, participants have to submit PDF presentations with pictures and text.

Embracing Open Innovation

This new open innovation contest is a part of a wider Unilever initiative to tap into the creativity of the crowd. The global company has entered into a partnership with eYeka.com to be able to work with its 250,000 strong community of creators.

Like many large corporations, Unilever has embraced open innovation. It sees the value in working with external sources of knowledge to ideate and solve complex problems.

Closing Date is Soon

The closing date for the sustainable shower contest is 8 September. For more details and to register to take part, click here.
