What Will 2020 Hold for Artificial Intelligence?

AI in 2020As is tradition, when one year comes to an end, it's time to make a few predictions about what the next year will have in store for us.

Today, we're going to take a quick peek into the near future to see what's coming with regards to artificial intelligence.

Data specialists, engineers, journalists and business executives to name but a few have been dusting down their crystal balls to make the following predictions:

Forbes has a huge list of 120 AI predictions. They include:

  • Retailers will turn to AI as their primary source of marketing insights.
  • Real-world implementations of AI and machine learning will grow, especially in the banking and finance industry.
  • Healthcare organizations will leverage AI to assist medical staff in providing patients with possible prognoses for their symptoms.
  • Artificial intelligence will play a significant role in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Expect to see robot assistants involved in publicity campaigns as well as assisting officials during live events.

 

PWC has published its third annual AI Predictions report. Among its conclusions are:

Fewer companies will produce AI at scale in 2020. According to its survey of more than 1,000 US business and technology executives, only 4% of executives plan to deploy AI enterprise-wide in the coming year.

IBM has also been looking at the year to come. Its predictions for artificial intelligence include:

  • AI will understand more, so it can do more.
  • AI won't take your job, but it will change how you work.
  • AI-powered lab assistants will discover new materials.
