In 2020 Tokyo will host the Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad.
To discover new ways to enhance the spectator experience organizers have launched an open innovation technology challenge.
The contest is open to anyone, and participants are invited to develop and submit user-friendly prototype apps featuring cloud and artificial intelligence technologies to improve the spectator experience.
In particular, the challenge is focusing on the experience for spectators at basketball 3x3, BMX freestyle, skateboarding and sport climbing events.
"The aim of the app development competition is to find enjoyable ways of bringing fans closer to the action," reads a statement on the OI challenge's website.
