Submissions Open for Management Innovation Prize

June 6, 2011 By Aminda

Submissions are open for the M-Prize in Management Innovation competition to encourage management innovation and organizational change. Created by the Management Innovation Exchange (MIX) and co-sponsored this year for the first time by Harvard Business Review and McKinsey & Company, the contest offers three challenges, presented in three phases, designed to surface the best practices and thinking around 21st century technology, strategy, and organizations. Winners will be selected by a panel of leaders in business and education.

The first phase is the Management 2.0 Challenge, which seeks the most progressive practices and disruptive ideas that illustrate how the governing principles and tools of the Web can make our organizations more adaptable, innovative, inspiring, and accountable. Submissions will be accepted through July 18, 2011. The subsequent phases will unfold over the course of a year; combined, the entire M-Prize challenge will focus on leveraging technology, reinventing strategy, and rethinking organizations.

The first M-Prize recognized three winning ideas including a local council initiative from the UK that streamlined how it reacted to repairs to council houses. As a result of the project, staff engaged with the new regime and the work ethos was completely transformed – from one that was driven by government targets with employees feeling like they were ‘firefighting’ all the time to an environment where people are encouraged to use their imagination and initiative.
