More than 36 million adults in the U.S. lack basic English literacy, yet only five percent have access to educational services.

Improving literacy rates can boost labor productivity, cut billions of dollars in national healthcare costs, and break the cycle of poverty for families in every state.

We need your innovative ideas for reaching low-literacy adults that seek to improve their English reading skills through free, field-tested mobile apps.

The challenge is broken down into two phases:

In Phase 1, tell us how you will revolutionize adult education in your community. We will award $10,000 each to the 50 teams with the best proposals.

In Phase 2, the three competitors who recruit the most people to download and use these free, proven-effective apps will win a share of an additional $500,000.
