The low-cost, 3D-printed Glia stethoscope could make the critical medical tool more accessible to developing areas.
Developed by a team at Western University, the Glia stethoscope takes only three hours to print from recycled plastic. Although the stethoscope costs only about three dollars to create, in tests it was able to deliver the same acoustic quality as its “premium brand” counterparts.
The template for the Glia model stethoscope is available on open-source software.
