BioBots Simplies 3D Printed Living Tissue

BioBots Simplies 3D Printed Living Tissue
May-14-15
The startup BioBots hopes to make 3D printing of living tissue both simple and affordable—offering an alternative source of biological tissue for pharmaceutical testing.

The key to the BioBots device is its interchangeable cartridges that have been filled with a special biomaterial made up of the living cells the user wants to print, three different powders, and a binding agent. After the powder is ejected from the printer’s syringes onto the culture dish, a blue light shines on the material to harden it without damaging the cells.

The team behind BioBots developed the device with an eye toward creating miniature human organs for drug testing and personalized drug therapies.
