C-Pulse Lets Injured Hearts Take a Break

C-Pulse Lets Injured Hearts Take a Break
Oct-09-14
The C-Pulse system has been proven to help the heart heal by aiding in blood circulation.

The C-Pulse was created for patients with Class III and ambulatory Class IV heart failure, which is usually accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness and shortness of breath and prevents people from enjoying everyday activities. The surgically-implanted device features a balloon-equipped cuff that wraps around the heart's ascending aorta and a pair of electrodes attached to the surface of the heart. Once in place, the device's air hose and electrical leads extend outside the body through the abdomen and attach to the system's external driver, which is worn over the shoulder.

As the C-Pulse's electrodes monitor the beating of the heart, the device responds by inflating and deflating the cuff to assist the heart in pumping blood. The added help is enough to allow patients to walk and move about while still letting the heart rest and heal.
