CANINE Robotic Cane Improves Gait

CANINE Robotic Cane Improves Gait
Aug-11-19
An innovative robotic cane will walk alongside a person to help them adjust and improve their gait.

The CANINE light-touch robotic cane was created by a team from Columbia University with the end goal of helping individuals with mobility issues improve their stride and balance. The cane, which was designed to mimic the effects of a human guiding companion, is attached to a robot that will track and move alongside the walking person. When the device was tested on volunteer subjects, the subject showed improved spatial self-awareness, which translates into better balance and self-confidence.
