EPItect Earpiece Sensor Detects Impending Seizures

EPItect Earpiece Sensor Detects Impending Seizures
Apr-17-16
The EPItect sensor earpiece can detect an impending seizure and send a warning alert to the patient and any other approved contacts.

Developed by team headed up by the University Hospital Bonn, the EPItech earpiece relies on electroencephalography to detect the signs of a seizure. While this technology is commonly used in hospitals, it is the first time it has been miniaturized to this extent. As the earpiece detects the impending seizure, via “accelerated pulse and certain patterns of movement,” the device will transmit the data through a connected smartphone to a central computer that notifies the approved contacts.
