The exosuit running shorts from the team at Harvard can make you a better runner.
The shorts are equipped with flexible wires anchored at the waist and the back of the thigh that connect to an external actuation unit. As the wearer runs, the actuation unit will pull on the wires, acting as a sort of second pair of hip extensor muscles to assist the legs as they stride. In tests, the shorts were able to reduce the wearer’s metabolic rate by up to 5.4 percent.
