An innovative new power-generating system will increase its power output when folded.
Developed by a team from Michigan State University, the energy-producing biocompatible ferroelectret nanogenerator (FENG) film is about the thickness of a piece of paper. The device is made up of a silicon wafer topped with layers of layers of silver, polymide and polypropylene ferroelectret, with ions scattered throughout. Compressing the layers will generate charged particles, and folding the device will cause it to exponentially increase the voltage—resulting in a smaller piece able to generate more energy.
