Graphene-Based Desiccant Absorbs More Moisture

Graphene-Based Desiccant Absorbs More Moisture
Jun-05-18
An extremely effective graphene-based desiccant could have applications ranging from footwear to electronics.

Developed by a team from UNSW Sydney, the desiccant is said to be twice as absorbent as silica gel—the most commonly used drying agent. The new desiccant is made up of layers of graphene oxide, and gets its impressive adsorption capabilities from the high capillary pressure in the material’s channels of wrinkles. The desiccant can also release its absorbed moisture at low temperature, and so could be used over again—making it ideal for use as odor absorbers in shoes as well as moisture trappers in electronics and packaging.
