Grass Like Generator Harvests Wind from All Directions

Grass Like Generator Harvests Wind from All Directions
Jan-24-16
A new, grass-like wind power generator able to harness the power of erratic wind gusts could also have applications in areas where full-sized turbines are not feasible.

The generator is made up a row of thin, upright strips stitched to a board, where they stand up a bit like blades of grass. Each strip has been equipped with nanowires on one side and a indium tin oxide coating on the other, which will make contact with each other when the strips blow in the wind. This brief contact causes electrons to move from one side to the other, creating a current that can be harnessed for use.
