Ground-Based Drones to Deliver Good to Homes

Nov-02-15 As an alternative to flying drones, Starship Technologies has unveiled its plans for ground-based local delivery robots that transport goods to people’s homes.

The robots are able to deliver up to 20 pounds of goods at an average speed of four miles per hour, with delivery within 5 to 30 minutes. According to the company, the robots are “99 percent” autonomous, and the compartment holding the cargo can only be opened by the customer’s mobile phone.

The company’s ultimate plan is to have a system of local hubs in cities that each serve only a few miles. As companies ship their bulk deliveries to the hubs, the robots would deliver them to the local addresses.
