Herbicide Gun Controls Parasitic Plants

Herbicide Gun Controls Parasitic Plants
Aug-12-16
A new herbicide gun invention able to shoot herbicide high into trees could help curb infestations of parasitic plants.

Created by a team from the INECOL institute in Mexico and the Advanced Technology Center in Queretaro (CIATEQ), the gun was developed specifically to help eradicate mistletoe. The device works a bit like a paintball gun, using compressed air to shoot specially-designed capsules of bio-herbicide onto the mistletoe at heights up to 25 feet. The capsules (the key to the device’s design) are formulated to hold together during flight and break apart upon impact on the plant.
