HET Wearable System Warns of Asthma Attacks

HET Wearable System Warns of Asthma Attacks
Jun-03-16
Researchers have created a new wearable system able to warn people with asthma of imminent attacks.

Developed by a team from North Carolina State University, the Health and Environmental Tracker (HET) consists of a wristband and chest patch that monitor the wearer as well as their environment. As the patch measures the wearer’s respiratory functioning, such as heart rate and wheezing, the wristband focuses on monitoring environmental factors, such as pollutants and humidity. The patient must also breathe into a separate spirometer several times a day.

The data from both is then sent to a paired smartphone, where the companion app will analyze the information to determine the likelihood of an asthma attack, as well as where it might occur.
