Poison-Free Trap Relies on Song Instead

Poison-Free Trap Relies on Song Instead
Jun-03-16
An innovative new pest control method eschews poison in favor of a love song.

The method was created to combat the Asian citrus psyllid, a tiny insect that causes a huge blight in citrus trees. In order to avoid the use of pesticides, a team from the University of Florida created an “acoustic trap” that will sound a female insect’s response call just a split second before the real insect can respond. This fake call will attract the male to the sound, and to a sticky surface that traps and kills it.
