Mitsubishi's Aerial Display Floats in Mid-Air

Mitsubishi's Aerial Display Floats in Mid-Air
Feb-21-16
Mitsubishi is developing an “aerial display” able to project images in mid-air that could be commercially available in 2020.

The display system is made up of a screen that displays the original image, a retro-reflective sheet that reflects light back in the direction it originated from, and a beam splitter that splits incoming light into transmitted and reflected light. When the screen displays the image, the projected light is reflected by the beam splitter and then the retro-reflective sheet, causing the light to converge as an image that appears to be floating in mid-air.
