Moving Sidewalk Concept Replaces Subway Cars

Sep-08-15 The imaginative folks at NBBJ have unveiled a plan for replacing the tubes in London’s Underground with fast-moving sidewalks that travel up to 15 miles per hour.

Reminiscent of an Isaac Asimov novel, the sidewalks would see people moving through different levels of speed by stepping onto progressively faster (or slower) sections—from the 3 mph belt up to the 15 mph section. According to the company, the moving sidewalks would actually speed transport by eliminating the need for an entire train to stop at every station.
