MoVR System Lets Virtual Reality Go Cordless

MoVR System Lets Virtual Reality Go Cordless
Nov-14-16
The prototype MoVR system offers high-resolution VR without needing to be tethered to a computer.

Currently, virtual reality headsets must be attached by a cable to a computer in order to deliver high-resolution visuals. To offer VR users a bit more freedom, a team from MIT has created the MoVR system, a wireless VR headset.

The MoVR system uses high-frequency radio waves, called mmWaves, to deliver the data. While the waves transmit data well, they can be easily blocked, and so the team also outfitted the MoVR device with a pair of antenna able to detect the mmWaves and direct them to the receiver.

Personal devices get smaller while VR and other processing get more demanding. In the future, will there be external auxiliary processors as there are external memories?
