New Fabric Harvests and Stores Solar Energy

New Fabric Harvests and Stores Solar Energy
Nov-14-16
An innovative fabric able to both harvest and store energy could one day be woven into clothing to power mobile devices.

Developed by a team from the University of Central Florida, the fabric is made up of small ribbons of copper with a solar cell on one side and a supercapacitor on the other. As the cells absorb sunlight, the energy is stored on the ribbon’s other side.

The ribbons can be woven together or into clothing, opening the door to wearables able to both harness and store solar energy.
