New eROT System Harnesses Energy from Bumps

New eROT System Harnesses Energy from Bumps
Aug-12-16
The eROT system for hybrid vehicles developed by Audi would enable the vehicle to generate electrical energy while also providing a smoother ride.

The eROT (electromechanical rotary dampers) system would replace the vehicle’s conventional hydraulic dampers with an electrical system that connects to the car’s own electrical network. A lever attached to the wheel carrier system would transfer the suspension movement to a series of gears that would in turn deliver energy to a dynamo motor that charges the vehicle’s electric battery.

Besides harvesting extra energy for the hybrid vehicle, the software-controlled eROT system also provides an active suspension system, which can be fine-tuned to offer more passenger comfort.
