The prototype Liddiard Wheels offer omnidirectional movement, allowing cars to roll sideways as well as back and forth.
Developed by Canadian inventor William Liddiard, the prototype wheels have been mounted on a vehicle and displayed in action. The wheels can be attached to a standard car with no special modifications, and can function in “all weather and road conditions” similar to standard tires. Liddiard is hoping for a commercial partnership, but since his current design delivers 24,000 pounds of torque, he plans to alter that ratio to allow the car to move with more speed.
