Plasma Comb Kills Lice without Chemicals

Nov-05-15 A new comb that uses plasma to kill lice eliminates the need for chemical-laden shampoos and tedious combing sessions.

While a special shampoo followed by combing with a fine-tooth comb is the current lice treatment, the method does not always remove all the lice. And some lice are even building up a resistance to the chemicals.

As an alternative, the team from Fruanhofer created a ‘plasma comb’ that will kill the bugs with cold plasma. The teeth of the comb are equipped with electrodes on their tips, which will emit bursts of energy to create cold plasma. The bursts of plasma are very short, so they do not heat up enough to burn the person, but still generate enough heat to kill the lice.
