A heart-checking app able to detect arrhythmia could help prevent strokes.
Developed by a team from the University of Turku, the app relies on the accelerometers found in standard smartphones, which can detect the micromovements of the heart. That data is then analyzed by the app, which was able to correctly identify atrial fibrillation in a study conducted on three hundred patients.
The spinoff company Precordior is now working to bring the app to the commercial market.
