Project RAPID Stops Poaching with Rhino Cams

Project RAPID Stops Poaching with Rhino Cams
Jul-23-15
In an effort to stop poaching, scientists from Project RAPID are experiment with installing spy cameras and alarms in the horns of endangered rhinos.

The Project RAPID (Real-time Anti-Poaching Intelligence Device) system consists of a spy camera embedded in the animal’s horn, a GPS device and a heart rate monitor. If the rhino is killed or injured, the system detects the change in heart rate and sends an alert back to base, allowing helicopter teams time to arrive on the scene within minutes. The prompt response leaves little time harvest the horn, deterring the poachers and possibly saving the animal.
