Proteus Camera Detects Light Inside the Body

Proteus Camera Detects Light Inside the Body
Sep-10-17
An innovative camera able to detect light inside the body could help doctors track tools as they maneuver them during procedures.

Currently, illuminated tools like endoscopes are tracked within the body using expensive processes such as X-rays. To offer a more affordable method, the new camera from Proteus uses single photon detection to allow the camera to detect the ‘ballistic light,’—the tiny fraction of the light from an illuminated device that travels directly from the source to the camera. By tracking this early arriving ballistic light, physicians can determine exactly where the instrument is located using minimally invasive techniques.
