Ideal for hikers, the PurTrek hides a handy water purifier inside a telescoping trekking pole.
The PurTrek weighs only 17 ounces, just a bit more than standard trekking poles, and holds a two-stage water filtration system within its telescoping body. The tip of the pole, which is inserted in the water, features a twist-to-open filter that keeps larger particles like sand out, while the removable grip holds a replaceable hollow-fiber filter that is said to capture 99.99 percent of bacteria and other micro-sized undesirables. The clean water is delivered to the user via a silicon tube, and the PurTrek system can be operated while standing, which tends to be more comfortable than kneeling over the water source.
