ResApp Diagnoses Respiratory Disease by Sound

ResApp Diagnoses Respiratory Disease by Sound
Apr-26-18
The ResApp from ResApp Health improves telemedicine by letting smartphones listen to a cough to diagnose and manage respiratory disease.

In development for five years, the ResApp diagnoses and monitors the patient’s respiratory disease based on the sound of the individual’s cough or breathing. The system relies on the smartphone’s microphone and a specialized algorithm to compare the patient’s respiratory sounds to a recorded database of known clinical diagnoses, and requires no physical contact or additional hardware. It can identify a range of diseases, including COPD, asthma and pneumonia, offering a useful new tool for telemedicine and home health monitoring.
