ROAR Projects Hopes for Trash-Collecting Robots

ROAR Projects Hopes for Trash-Collecting Robots
Sep-20-15
Volvo's ROAR project could one day see robots collecting garbage from houses, eliminating the need for humans to do the heavy lifting.

Beyond making garbage collection mornings a bit quieter, the Robot-based Autonomous Refuse handling project was established to demonstrate the way smart machines will soon be used to “assist with a broad range of activities in society.” The project is international, and will include a control panel from Penn State, control system from Chalmers University, and a robot created by Mälardalen University—with the goal of developing a functioning trash-handling robot by summer of 2016.
