Safer Cold Plasma Method for Sterilizing Equipment

May-27-18 A new cold plasma generation method offers a safer and more practical way to sterilize medical equipment.

Cold plasma is a promising way to sterilize equipment, but its use in medical settings is limited due to the tendency of the plasma production to interfere with equipment electronics. To help overcome this liability, the team from Purdue University developed a way to create the bursts of plasma using high-voltage DC technology rather than radio frequency voltage or pulsed DC power.

According to assistant professor Alexey Shashurin, Shashurin said. “The combination of being chemical-free, low temperature, simple and safe makes this a game changer in the medical tool sterilization community.”
