The Scott Sight mask from Tyco integrates thermal vision into the firefighter’s face mask, leaving their hands free to deal with equipment or survivors.
Firefighters have used handheld thermal imaging cameras, which help them navigate through thick smoke and find hidden fires, for some time now. However, current thermal cameras are both expensive and handheld—which can get in the way of operations. As an alternative, Tyco developed the Scott Sight face mask, which features a thermal camera and display integrated into the mask. The firefighter can choose between different settings to maximize visibility, and the system has a battery life of about four hours.
